Help Stop the Destruction of the Texas Hill Country

TEXAS GOVERNMENT WANTS YOUR LAND!

Senate Bill 20 authored by Senator TROY FRASER empowered PUC to expand wind energy throughout the State.  The bill specifies that power lines should be built in "less populated areas" and names McCamey specifically.
Public Utility Commission (PUC) and Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) propose routes for double circuit 345 kV transmission lines that will be built through Schleicher, Sutton, Menard, Kimble, Mason, Gillespie, Kerr and Kendall counties.  These lines will bring electricity from West Texas wind farms to the IH-35 Corridor.  LCRA says that Texas doesn't need more electricity NOW, but that more people moving here will need electricity LATER.

Texas is  THE LEADER IN PRODUCTION of wind energy in the United States.  The LCRA project will cost our state approximately $4.93 BILLION during the WORST economic conditions our country has seen in many years!

This site is devoted to informing Texas Hill Country Residents and Visitors about the effects of the proposed "LCRA Texas Land Grab".

The is no need for new lines...
1.  Only 1-3% of wind power gets to its final destination AT PEAK (1-2 a.m.)
2.  There is no good route through the Hill Country
3.  Natural Gas Prices are lower
4.  Wind Energy costs too much
5.  Each windmill is taxpayer subsidized annually...creating higher taxes for Texans
6.  Building and upgrading local power plants is cheaper, cleaner and does not devastate the natural resources as the wind power line project would

WHAT CAN I DO?

  • The Texas Legislature SANCTIONED Building of the Power Lines and they can STOP THEM FROM BEING BUILT.  Click the "Write Your Representatives" link to the left of the page.  Tell our legislators what you think!
  • Send comments to the PUC.  Tell them how these lines will affect the Hill Country - your business and your way of life.

  • TELL YOUR NEIGHBORS about what is going on.  Many Hill Country Residents don't know about the power line issue.
