Only 1-3% of the electricty generated from West Texas reaches Customers!
CPS Energy of San Antonio (the largest holder of wind power in Texas) issued a request to small energy companies to provide 200 Mw of renewable energy.  CPS specified that it does not want energy from WEST TEXAS WIND TURBINES.  The only renewable energy they will accept from West Texas is from their solar powered facilities.

WHY? you may ask.  Because West Texas Wind is not reliable enough.  A study presented by Sam Jones (former head of ERCOT) found that only between 1-3% of the energy generated by the West Texas Wind turbines reaches its target.  Imagine buying a car that stays broken down 97-99% of the time!

Problems with Wind Power
  • In the Early 2000's significant wind facilities were built in West Texas and Transmission was a immediate problem
  • Wind farms were built where there is limited transmission to get the power to its destination
  • Rises and falls of wind generation were constant
  • Voltage is lost through transmission (not all of the electricity created reaches its target)
  • Wind energy is not stable
  • Wind patterns limit capacity during peak load periods (when people use the most electricity, there is not enough wind energy)
  • Studies show that peak wind in West Texas is between 1-2 in the morning!
  • Wind Turbines are powered by GAS during non-peak wind times! Click on this link for more info.
